Don’t let your asthma interfere with your daily life

If you’re an active person with an asthma condition, you shouldn’t think twice before taking that long weekend or a day hike.

Many patients, who strongly prefer nebulizers over inhalers, sacrifice their family or recreational activities because of the trouble of carrying a nebulizer. Nebulizers work on electricity and have to be plugged into a power source. Now go find a plug out in the woods…

But here’s a great device that can help asthmatic that is on the go. It’s called the DeVilbiss Traveler, Portable Compressor Nebulizer and it is the perfect travel companion that makes it easier and more convenient than ever to "nebulize" when you're away from home.
The Traveler Nebulizer is the perfect system to improve your profitability. Not to mention the potential increase in medication revenues that will result from increased compliance with their nebulizer regiment.

This highly portable package makes The Traveler to be one of the smallest compressor nebulizers on the market. It weighs less than a pound and is smaller than a standard size postcard!

The Traveler Nebulizer comes with a convenient carrying case and even a car charger:

How to clean and maintain a CPAP machine?

CPAP machines require only minimal maintenance work which is very important to follow. The CPAP machine itself does not require cleaning, but only a monthly replacement of the filters. The CPAP mask should always be clean, at least once a day which will enhance comfort and performance.

Remember to wash all parts of the mask including the cushions, forehead pads and flaps. You can clean the mask with a soapy cloth or soak the mask in a bowl filled with hot water and gentle soap. Use a Q-tip in hard to reach places and dry the mask before use.

The tube stays pretty clean but it won’t hurt to run soapy water in it a couple of times a month. A humidifier can cause the tube to be contaminated so try and use distilled water and clean the chamber of the humidifier regularly.

How to make Nebulizer Fun for Children

Nebulizers are very effective in kids’ asthma treatment. They turn medicines into a mist that goes straight into the airway. The problem is that Nebulizers aren’t much fun for kids. There’s a mask and a mouthpiece, and your child would pretty much prefer to go outside and play.

But Nebulizers can be fun for children. Nebulizers were once white, threatening hospital like machines, but these days there are over! Today, exciting new Nebulizers are available in cool designs that help eliminate stress and anxiety and employ the child’s imagination during the treatment.

Take a look at this New Fire Truck Nebulizer:

The New Fire & Rescue Compressor Nebulizer System, a durable metal piston driven system comes complete with patient administration set, respiratory mask and can be fun and amusing to use.

This next set is really amazing and innovative:

It's called the AIRIAL Pediatric Building Block Compressor Nebulizer System and it is the most popular and child friendly "Toy Nebulizer Machine." The System is specially designed to help eliminate your child’s anxiety and impatience during his/her breathing treatment while keeping him/her ‘busy’ with Lego style building blocks and comes in three styles:
  • Postal Store Building Kit
  • Heli Port Kit
  • Pirate Island Kit
But even with those wonderful machines, it is recommended to turn this treatment into a special time with your child. Use your imagination and pretend that the mask is a pilot mask, astronaut mask, or firefighter mask when using the Fire Truck Nebulizer.

Take a look at this video made by a child specialist, and maybe you can get some more interesting ideas:

Tired of sleepiness? You might have Sleep Apnea

Who doesn’t snore really? We all snore, just a little bit. Sometimes it’s even cute… But sometimes snoring can turn into something we should be a bit worried about. It’s called Obstructive Sleep Apnea and it happens because our airway is blocked during sleep. A person who suffers from sleep apnea doesn’t necessarily know that he has a problem. Usually, it is the partner that can notice the issue. Here is a nice couple that documented what sleep apnea looks like:

As you can see, during sleep, the person stops breathing, sometimes for 30 seconds or even more than a minute, until his brain orders him to wake up and change position so breathing can resume its normal state.

One possible treatment for sleep apnea is using a CPAP machine. It’s not as scary as it sounds. CPAP is a machine that releases streams of air into your airway, which makes sleep apnea impossible. Here is an evidence from a patient who is using a CPAP machine on a nightly basis:
